Bangladesh announced their intent on the regional futsal stage with a spirited 4-4 draw against India in a pulsating SAFF Futsal Championship opener on Wednesday in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
Despite limited international exposure in the fast-paced format, both sides went toe to toe in a contest that ebbed and flowed like a pendulum, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the final hooter. The match, played over two 20-minute halves, produced four goals in each period and showcased growing maturity in Bangladesh's futsal structure.
Bangladesh struck first through Moin Ahmed, who finished smartly from captain Rahbar Khan's pass. India responded via Anmol Adhikari before Rahbar restored the lead, only for an unfortunate own goal by Tuhin to level matters at the break.
The second half followed the same script. India surged ahead through Rolruapuiya after Lalrinzuala's delivery, but Moin, enjoying a productive evening, brought Bangladesh back on level terms with a composed diagonal finish. India edged ahead once more, yet Rahbar Khan, leading from the front, capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire home the equaliser and deny India all three points.
Bangladesh had late chances to snatch victory, but honours ultimately ended even. It was a performance rich in character and promise, underlining that Bangladesh are no longer mere participants but credible competitors in the futsal arena.
