DU’s Kabi Jasimuddin Hall inaugurates sports competition, new gym

Dhaka University’s Kabi Jasimuddin Hall inaugurated Internal Sports Competition and officially inaugurated its newly established gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

The event took place at around 6:00 PM in the hall premises.

The ceremony was presided over by Hall Provost Professor Dr Mohammad Shahin Khan.

The chief guest, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, led the inauguration of various sports events, including badminton, table tennis, carrom and chess.

Special guests included Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed and DUCSU Jasimuddin Hall Vice-President (VP) Usman Goni.

During the event, Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, along with the special guests, also inspected the hall’s newly established gymnasium, guest room renovation and the provision of new sofa sets, funded by the hall administration.

The chief guest praised the overall management of the hall and expressed satisfaction at the students’ enthusiasm for sports.

He highlighted the achievements of various active clubs within the hall and encouraged students to participate in co-curricular activities, emphasising that such involvement will bring future recognition and honour to the university.

Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed commended students for their voluntary participation in sports, urging them to maintain discipline and responsibility.

He also encouraged students to maintain a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and lauded the hall’s tradition of balancing academics with extracurricular activities.

Hall VP Usman Goni highlighted the hall administration and Hall DUCSU’s activities, emphasising the importance of students’ equal participation in both academics and co-curricular programs.

In his speech, Hall Provost Professor Dr Mohammad Shahin Khan noted that the internal sports competition fosters team spirit, camaraderie, and competitive spirit among students, while the new gymnasium plays a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

He thanked residential and assistant residential teachers, student representatives and staff for their support in organising the event.

The ceremony was attended by residential and assistant residential teachers, elected student leaders of the hall union, general students and hall staff.
