The original FIFA World Cup trophy has arrived in Dhaka.
Around 10AM on Wednesday, the iconic trophy landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. After some formalities, it will be taken to Radisson Blu Hotel.
As part of global tour, the trophy arrived in Dhaka crossing the Atlantic via India. A high-profile delegation, headlined by Brazil’s 2002 World Cup-winning midfielder Gilberto Silva, came to Dhaka in this tour.
However, there is not much opportunity for general public to watch.
The trophy was received at the airport by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal.
Organised by Coca-Cola, the trophy’s global journey is a mammoth undertaking, spanning 30 FIFA member countries over 150 days. This sixth edition of the tour began on January 3 in Riyadh and has been making strategic stops across Asia ahead of the historic 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin on June 11 and conclude on July 19. For the first time, the event will be hosted jointly by three countries the United States, Mexico and Canada.
