Two sentenced to death, one to life in Shariatpur

SHARIATPUR, Jan 13: The Shariatpur District Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal has sentenced two men to death and one to life imprisonment for the murder of a child. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, two years and five months after the crime.
On August 1, 2023, Nibir Khan, a class five student, was killed in Khilgaon Village of Domsar Union. The tribunal found the three accused guilty beyond doubt based on evidence. Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman pronounced the sentence in a crowded court on Tuesday afternoon. Shakil Hossain Gazi and Siam Hossain received the death penalty. A third accused, Tuhin, was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Shakil Hossain Gazi and Tuhin are from Khilgaon Village. Siam Hossain is a resident of Singga Village in Pabna.
After the verdict, an angry crowd attempted to attack the accused as they were led from the court. Police intervened and secured them within the court premises.
The case details that Nibir, son of expatriate couple Monir Khan and Nipa Akhter, went missing after leaving home to play sports on August 1, 2023. His mother later received a ransom demand of Tk 50 lakh.
Using information technology, police arrested Shakil, Siam, and the teenage Tuhin. Based on their information, Nibir's buried body was recovered from nearby vacant land.
