Fire breaks out at Matarbari Power Plant

A massive fire erupted at the Matarbari Power Plant in Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.

The blaze reportedly started around 9:15 PM. As of 9:45 PM, fire service units were still working to bring the fire under control.

Confirming the incident, Ram Prasad Sen, Maheshkhali Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer-in-Charge (Acting), said that the fire broke out in the coal storage yard of the thermal power plant. He added that two fire service units were actively engaged in controlling the blaze.

Locals said they noticed the fire suddenly while standing on a bridge adjacent to the power plant.
