Trader commits suicide in Noakhali

A trader died after committing suicide in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district on Saturday, after suffering from prolonged illness.

The deceased was identified as Narayan Chandra Das, 54, son of late Gopal Chandra Das, a resident of Krishnarampur village under Rajganj union in the upazila. He was a fish trader by profession.

According to the deceased’s son, Nimai Chandra Das, Narayan had been suffering for a long time from tumours, ulcers and piles. Despite undergoing treatment several times, his condition did not improve, leaving him mentally distressed.

On Saturday early morning, Narayan left home due to unbearable pain and later, without the knowledge of family members, hanged himself from a mango tree beside their house.

Confirming the incident, Begumganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shamsuzzaman said that police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

An unnatural death case has been filed in this connection, added the OC.
