Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and Khulna-5 constituency candidate Mia Golam Parwar has warned that placing state power in the hands of extortionists and land grabbers would jeopardise the safety of the country and its minority communities.

Speaking on Saturday morning while addressing public outreach programmes and courtyard meetings in different areas of Atlia union under Dumuria upazila in Khulna-5 constituency, Parwar said that even after political change, criminal activities have continued unabated.

Referring to the political transition of August 5, he said fascist forces were no longer in power after that change.

“Then who are the people who carried out extortion, grabbed shrimp enclosures and land, and even collected money from peanut sellers in the markets?” he asked.

Citing incidents where people were allegedly beaten to death with stones for refusing to pay extortion money, Parwar questioned whether peace and security could ever be ensured if such forces were handed state power.

He also visited the homes of Krishna Kundu, Raju Kundu and Gopi Kundu at Angardaha village of Kharnia union, which were destroyed in a fire caused by an electrical short circuit.

During the visit, he inquired about their condition and expressed sympathy and support.

Several Jamaat leaders were present with him, including Khulna District Jamaat Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Professor Mia Golam Quddus, district executive committee member Advocate Abu Yusuf Mollah, Dumuria Upazila Ameer Maulana Moktar Hossain, Nayeb-e-Ameer Gazi Saifullah and Maulana Habibur Rahman, among others.

He reiterated that ensuring justice, law and order and the protection of all communities must be the foundation of any future government.
