Trader shot dead at Jashore market

A trader was shot dead in broad daylight at a grocery market in Manirampur upazila, Jashore, on Monday evening.


The deceased has been identified as Rana Pratap Bairagi, 38, son of Tushar Bairagi, a schoolteacher from Arua village in nearby Keshabpur upazila of the district. He was also an ice factory owner.


According to police, he was called into an alley in the market by a group of individuals. An altercation ensued, after which he was shot at close range. Later, the assailants fled the scene immediately on a motorbike.


Confirming the incident, Manirampur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Raziullah Khan said that seven cartridges were recovered near the body.


Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify the suspects, the OC added.
