The government has proposed a special one-time financial assistance of Tk 10 crore 20 lakh for the families of those killed or injured in the Milestone School and College plane crash, in which a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet crashed on July 21 of the previous year.

According to a summary submitted by the Ministry of Finance’s Budget-1 Division, the tragic incident in Uttara, Dhaka, claimed the lives of 35 people, including 28 students, three teachers, one staff member and three guardians. Over 58 others were injured and received treatment at various hospitals, with a total of 64 people documented as injured.

An inter-ministerial meeting chaired by an advisor of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on December 2, 2025, decided on compensation and support measures for the victims’ families. Officials from the Ministry of Education, Finance, Health and Family Welfare, and a Bangladesh Air Force air commodore attended the meeting.

Under the proposal, each family of the deceased will receive Tk 20 lakh, while each injured person will receive Tk 5 lakh. This amounts to Tk 7 crore for the 35 deceased and Tk 3 crore 20 lakh for the 64 injured.

The funds will be sourced from the Ministry of Secondary and Higher Education’s ‘Research’ allocation and the general allocation for government secondary schools, reallocated as a special grant.

Payments will be made directly to the verified bank accounts of the victims’ families, following standard government financial rules. All unused funds must be returned to the government treasury by June 30, 2026.

The government emphasised the humanitarian nature of the support, noting that normally private educational institutions do not receive allocations from public funds.
