A Gazipur court on Monday placed July uprising activist Tahrima Jannat Surovi on a two-day remand in connection with a case filed at Kaliakair Police Station.

Judicial Magistrate Syed Fazlul Mahadi of Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court granted the remand on January 5 after police sought five days to question the accused, court and police officials confirmed.

According to the investigation officer, sub-Inspector Omar Faruk of Kaliakair Police Station, she was arrested a few days earlier in a case filed by a journalist.

The case was filed by journalist Naimur Rahman Durjoy at Kaliakair Police Station, in which an arrest warrant had been issued against her. The allegations include extortion, abduction for ransom and blackmailing.

Police said the case is being investigated with importance. Tahrima was arrested on the night of December 24 during a joint forces operation from her residence in Gopalpur Tekpara area under Tongi East Police Station.

Gazipur court inspector Abdul Mannan confirmed that the court approved a two-day remand after police applied for five days.

Tahrima’s father, Md Selim, claimed the allegations against his daughter are false, stating that his daughter was falsely implicated in the case.
