Chattogram overtake Rajshahi to go top of table

Chattogram Royals continued their dominant run in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), cruising to a comprehensive win over Sylhet Titans to move to the top of the points table.

After thrashing Dhaka Capitals by 10 wickets in their previous match, Chattogram Royals registered another commanding victory on Sunday, defeating Sylhet Titans by nine wickets. 

The emphatic win saw Chattogram leapfrog Rajshahi Warriors to claim the top spot in the BPL standings.

Batting first, Sylhet were bundled out for a modest 126 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. 

Chattogram chased down the target with ease, sealing victory with 24 balls to spare and nine wickets in hand.

At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Chattogram captain Shak Mahedi Hasan won the toss and opted to field. 

Sylhet’s batters struggled from the outset against disciplined bowling, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build any meaningful partnerships.

Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai was the lone bright spot for Sylhet, scoring 44 runs off 41 balls. None of the other batters managed to cross the 20-run mark.

For Chattogram, Shak Mahedi Hasan and Mirza Beg picked up two wickets each, while Shariful Islam, Mukidul Islam and Amir Jamal claimed one wicket apiece.

In reply, openers Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Adam Rossington made light work of the chase. The pair put on a commanding 115-run opening stand, effectively deciding the match. Naim fell after scoring 52, but the damage had already been done.

Rossington completed his half-century and remained unbeaten on 70, guiding the team home alongside Shadman Islam, who stayed not out on seven.
