BNP leader shot dead in Jashore

JASHORE, Jan 03: Assailants have gunned down a BNP leader in Jashore Sadar Upazila, sending shockwaves through the local political community.

The deceased, Alamgir Hossain, 35, was served as the Joint General Secretary of BNP in Ward No. 7 of Jashore Municipality. He was the son of the late Intaz Chowdhury of Shankarpur Ishak Road area.

The incident took place around 6:45pm in front of Councillour Noyon's office in Shankarpur of the town.
According to locals and police, Alamgir Hossain was present in Shankarpur when a group of unknown attackers opened fire on him. One bullet struck the left side of his head, causing severe bleeding and causing him to collapse. Locals rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshots, but the assailants fled immediately.

He was taken to the emergency department of Jashore Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Doctors declared him dead upon examination, noting that he had died before reaching the hospital due to severe bleeding from the gunshot wound.

OC Faruq Ahmed of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station said the shooting created widespread panic in the area.
Multiple police teams have visited the scene to investigate, but the identities of the attackers and their motive remain unknown. Additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.
