The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday declared the nominations of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam as valid.
At the same time, the nominations of Jatiya Ganatantrik Front President and Jatiya Party faction chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and independent candidate Tasnim Zara were rejected.
During three days of nationwide scrutiny, the EC cancelled the nomination papers of more than 100 candidates, including CPB General Secretary Abdullah Kafi. Among the rejected candidates, nine were from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, eight from the Jatiya Party (JAP), and three from Jamaat-e-Islami, including Hamidur.
Independent candidate Tasnim Zara announced on social media that she would appeal the decision to the High Court.
According to district Returning Officers, nominations were cancelled for various reasons, including incomplete or incorrect affidavit information, loan defaults, and mismatches in voter information for independent candidates. The cancellations were announced Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
