The funeral prayers and burial of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia will be held at 2 pm today with full state honours, from the time her body is taken from Evercare Hospital to the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
According to the BNP, Khaleda Zia's funeral will be held after Zohr prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. She will be buried beside her husband, former President and founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman.
During a media briefing, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said more than 10,000 members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed to ensure security during the funeral and burial.
The arrangements were finalised at a coordination meeting chaired by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at the Home Ministry conference room. The meeting reviewed all aspects of Khaleda Zia's funeral, burial, and overall law and order preparations.
Regarding preparations, Shafiqul Alam said the police and security agencies had reviewed all arrangements, expanding on previous large-scale funeral plans to ensure everything proceeds smoothly. He emphasized full coordination with the BNP, assuring that the government would provide all necessary support.
Asked about security concerns, he confirmed there were none, and maximum security measures would be in place.
Reiterating the matter of state honours, Shafiqul Alam said every stage of the funeral and burial, from Evercare Hospital to the South Plaza, would be conducted with full dignity. He praised Khaleda Zia as an uncompromising leader who repeatedly restored democracy in Bangladesh and devoted nearly 45 years to public service.
