Muhammad Jahirul Islam Established Ignite Global Foundation on February 2, 2016, Ignite Global Foundation (IGF) has evolved into a nationally recognized non-governmental organization dedicated to addressing some of Bangladesh’s most pressing development challenges. With operations spanning 64 districts, a volunteer base of more than 23,000 young changemakers, and an outreach impacting nearly 800,000 people, IGF represents a powerful model of grassroots-driven, evidence-based social development.
The foundation was born from the vision and lived experience of Muhammad Jahirul Islam, the Founder and Chairman of IGF. What began as a simple act of winter clothing distribution transformed into a lifelong commitment to social justice when Jahirul encountered street children who asked not for charity, but for education. This defining moment led him to establish a school and eventually create Ignite Global Foundation an organization built on the belief that dignity, opportunity, and inclusion must be at the heart of development work.
Under Jahirul Islam’s leadership, IGF has adopted a holistic approach that integrates education, youth empowerment, disaster resilience, public health, climate action, and sustainable livelihoods. His contributions to youth leadership and community development have been widely recognized, including prestigious accolades such as The Diana Award, UN Best Volunteer Group Award, ILA 30 under 30 Award and several national honors. Beyond awards, his most significant contribution lies in mobilizing thousands of young people to become ethical volunteers and community leaders.
Disaster Resilience and Climate Response Bangladesh’s vulnerability to climate change places millions at risk from floods, cyclones, river erosion, and heat stress. IGF’s Disaster Resilience and Community Support Programaddresses both emergency needs and long-term recovery. Through coordinated relief distribution, shelter support, and rehabilitation initiatives, IGF has reached nearly 6,000 climate-affected and vulnerable people.
These interventions focus on food security, emergency supplies, temporary shelter, and rebuilding community infrastructure. IGF’s disaster response emphasizes speed, transparency, and community participation, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need while strengthening local resilience against future shocks.
Sustainable Livelihoods and Poverty Alleviation Recognizing that long-term resilience requires economic stability, IGF implements Sustainable Livelihoods and Poverty Alleviation programs designed to break cycles of dependency. Through zakat-based initiatives and skills-oriented support, the foundation has reached almost 1,000 individualsand successfully empowered 158 families by creating sustainable income-generating opportunities.
These programs enable vulnerable households to establish small businesses, improve productivity, and achieve financial independence. By prioritizing dignity and self-reliance, IGF moves beyond short-term assistance toward sustainable social impact. WASH, Health, and Nutrition Interventions Access to basic services remains a major barrier to human development in marginalized communities. IGF actively works on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), menstrual health and hygiene (MHH), nutrition, and primary healthcare access.
Through community health campaigns, IGF provides medical consultations, health awareness sessions, and preventive care services to underserved populations. In climate-affected and water-scarce areas, the foundation installs safe drinking water tube wells, significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving overall community well-being.
Menstrual health and hygiene initiatives address stigma and lack of awareness, particularly among adolescent girls and women, promoting dignity, school attendance, and reproductive health. Nutrition-focused interventions complement these efforts by tackling malnutrition through food assistance and awareness programs.
A flagship initiative under this pillar is Project Qurbani, which ensures access to protein-rich food for underprivileged families during religious occasions. This project plays a crucial role in improving dietary intake for communities where protein consumption is often limited.
Inclusive Education and Youth Development Education remains a core pillar of IGF’s mission. The foundation promotes inclusive education, ensuring that children from disadvantaged backgrounds"including those with special needs-have access to quality learning environments. Through sponsorship and community-based education support, IGF addresses barriers such as poverty, nutrition, and healthcare that often hinder school attendance.
Simultaneously, IGF’s Youth Development Program nurtures leadership, volunteerism, and civic responsibility among young people. Youth leaders are trained and deployed at district and local levels to implement development initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a culture of social responsibility and active citizenship.
Environmental and Civic Engagement IGF integrates environmental sustainability into its development agenda through tree plantation drives, urban greening initiatives, and public awareness campaigns. These efforts not only contribute to climate mitigation but also encourage youth participation in protecting public spaces, road safety, and environmental stewardship.
Through visionary leadership, community-centered programming, and the energy of thousands of young volunteers, Ignite Global Foundation continues to transform vulnerability into opportunity. Guided by the principles championed by Muhammad Jahirul Islam, IGF stands as a testament to how youth leadership and evidence-based action can ignite lasting social change.
His mission centers on ensuring quality inclusive education for marginalized and special-needs children, youth development, building a discrimination-free Bangladesh, empowering poor and vulnerable communities, and strengthening disaster response efforts.
