The 1st National Junior and Youth Club Cup Wushu Championship 2025 was brought to an early close on Tuesday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Dhaka following the death of Begum Khaleda Zia, former three-time Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
According to officials, the news of Begum Khaleda Zia's passing reached the venue while the final events of the championship were in progress. In keeping with the solemn national mood and out of respect for the late national leader, the Bangladesh Wushu Federation took the decision to curtail the ongoing programme and conclude the competition prematurely. Consequently, the organisers were unable to finalise the results of the championship finals, leaving the outcome of several events undecided.
The scheduled prize-giving ceremony was replaced by a moment of reflection. Before proceedings were formally concluded, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of Begum Khaleda Zia, followed by special prayers seeking forgiveness for her departed soul, lending a sombre tone to what was otherwise meant to be a celebratory occasion.
Officials indicated that decisions regarding the unfinished finals and the overall status of the championship would be taken in due course, in deference to the prevailing national context.
