Govt urges to avoid fireworks on New Year celebrations

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has urged all concerned to refrain from using fireworks, sky lanterns and crackers during New Year celebrations marking the start of Gregorian calendar year.

In a directive issued on Monday noon ahead of December 31 celebrations, the ministry said the use of fireworks, lanterns and crackers contributes to air and noise pollution and can cause fires and bird deaths.

The ministry stressed that the directive should be followed in the interest of protecting the environment and safeguarding public health.
