Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-51) arrested a member of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after allegedly crossing into Bangladeshi territory through the Dahagram–Angarpota border area near the Tin Bigha Corridor in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat district early Sunday.

According to BGB sources, the BSF personnel crossed the international zero line during an operation near the border and entered around 300 yards inside Bangladesh. The individual reportedly sought refuge at a local resident’s house before being detained by members of the BGB-51 Battalion from the Angarpota camp.

Angarpota BGB camp in charge Subedar Ayub Ali said that a group of suspected cattle smugglers had assembled near the border at the time.

He added that BSF personnel from India’s Arjunbari camp were pursuing the group when the BSF member inadvertently crossed into Bangladeshi territory.

The detained BSF personnel is currently being held at the BGB camp, pending further instructions.

BGB-51 Battalion Sector Commander Lieutenant Colonel Selim Al Din confirmed the detention and said that communication is underway with higher authorities on both sides.

He said further action will be taken through bilateral engagement, including a possible flag meeting between BGB and BSF.

Locals expressed concern over what they described as repeated incursions and harassment by Indian border forces in the sensitive border enclave area.

A resident of Dahagram Union, Rezanuar Rahman Reza, alleged that the unique geographical setting often leads to provocative actions. He also recalled a 2014 incident in which liquor bottles were reportedly hung on barbed-wire fencing in the no-man’s land, allegedly in reference to a bilateral agreement.
