Miscreants set the house of Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, president of National Democratic Front (NDF), on fire in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district on Friday night.
Witnesses said some unidentified people swooped on the ancestral home of Anisul around 11:40PM and carried out vandalism.Later, they exploded crude bombs and set the house on fire.
Meanwhile, the miscreants also set a private vehicle, owned by Akbar Haidar Chowdhury, paternal uncle of the NDF leader, on fire.
Getting information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
Kazi Md Tarek Aziz, additional superintendent (Hathazari circle) of Chittagong Police, said police are trying to arrest the arsonists.
The fire gutted valuables including furniture, said Hathazari Police Station OC Zahidul Islam.
