FENI, Dec 19: Five candidates, including nominees of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the AB Party, were fined Tk 50,000 in total in the Feni-2 constituency for violating the electoral code of conduct by failing to remove campaign materials within the stipulated time.
A mobile court led by Feni Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Jasim Uddin conducted the drive in different parts of the constituency on Thursday afternoon and imposed the fines.
According to mobile court officials, the Election Code of Conduct 2025 requires all political parties and candidates to remove posters, banners, festoons, and other campaign materials within 48 hours of the announcement of the election schedule. Despite the deadline passing, several candidates left their campaign materials displayed, prompting legal action.
Those fined are: BNP's candidate and BNP Chairperson's Adviser Zainal Abedin alias VP Zainal; Jamaat-e-Islami's candidate and Central Majlis-e-Shura member Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan; AB Party's candidate and Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju; Islami Andolan Bangladesh's candidate and District General Secretary Ekramul Haque Bhuiyan; and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) candidate and District General Secretary Shamsuddin Mojumder. Each was fined Tk 10,000.
Speaking to reporters, Executive Magistrate Jasim Uddin said, the mobile court was conducted to ensure a fair electoral environment and compliance with the code of conduct. "A total of Tk 50,000 has been realised as fines under the relevant sections of the Election Code of Conduct 2025. Representatives of the candidates have already paid the fines," he said.
He added that instructions have been issued to remove all remaining posters, banners, and festoons by Thursday evening. The district administration said drives by mobile courts will continue to ensure full compliance with electoral rules.
