Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, has passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

The information was confirmed on Thursday night through posts issued by Inqilab Moncho and Osman Hadi’s verified Facebook page.

“Allah has accepted the great revolutionary Osman Hadi as a martyr in the struggle against Indian hegemony,” the post read.

Osman Hadi rose to prominence during the July uprising and the movement demanding the ban of Awami League.

He had recently announced his intention to contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8.

He was critically injured in a shooting attack last Friday while campaigning at Bijoynagar area of the capital.

Hadi was travelling on a rickshaw when an assailant riding a motorcycle opened fire at close range. The bullet struck him in the head.

He was first rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was later transferred to Evercare Hospital in the capital.

On Monday, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.

Despite intensive medical care, Osman Hadi succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, prompting an outpouring of grief among supporters and activists associated with the July uprising movement.
