Bangla Academy announces Bangla Academy Awards 2025

Bangla Academy has announced eight awards for 2025, recognising distinguished contributions to literature, science and the arts. 

The awards will be formally conferred on December 27 at 48th Annual General Meeting of Bangla Academy’s General Council.

The announcement was made through a press release issued by Bangla Academy on Thursday.

The recipients and award details are as follows:

Professor Mansur Musa has been awarded Mohammad Barkatullah Essay Literature Award for his contributions to language-based research. The award carries a cash prize of Tk 1,00,000.

Khosru Chowdhury has received Meher Kabir Science Literature Award for his overall contribution to the study and popularisation of nature and science. The prize money is Tk 1,00,000.

Mazharul Islam Poetry Award has been conferred on Sanaul Haque Khan in recognition of his overall contribution to Bangla poetry. The award includes Tk 1,00,000.

Hafiz Rashid Khan has been selected for Sa‘adat Ali Akhand Literature Award for his research on the life and literature of various ethnic communities. The prize money is Tk 1,00,000.

Veteran actor and theatre personality Tarique Anam Khan has been honoured with Professor Mamatazuddin Ahmed Theatre Award for his overall contribution as an actor, theatre director and organiser. The award carries a cash prize of Tk 1,00,000.

Shibabrata Barman has won Abu Rushd Literature Award for his outstanding contributions to translated literature. The prize money is Tk 1,00,000.

Safique Islam has been awarded Halima-Sharafuddin Science Award for presenting mathematics in an accessible and engaging manner. The award carries a cash prize of Tk 50,000.

Rabeya Khatun Fiction Award 2025 has been awarded to two recipients. Subrata Barua has received the award for his overall contribution to fiction, carrying a prize of Tk 2,00,000. 

In addition, Anisur Rahman has been honoured in under-49 category for his short story collection Sisifas Sram, published in 2024. He will receive Tk 1,00,000.

Bangla Academy awards are among the country’s most prestigious literary honours, recognising excellence and sustained contributions across diverse fields of creative and intellectual pursuit.
