Jamaat fields candidates in all 23 JS seats in greater Ctg

BNP nominates 21, NCP 15 for Feb polls

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 17: The nominated candidates of all political parties for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary elections have been continuing their secret campaign to woo the voters because the official election campaign is yet to begin.

The Jamaat-e- Islami has already announced the names of the total 23 candidates for greater Chattogram.

The nominated candidates have been organizing meetings regularly in the unit levels to activate the party workers.

According to the party sources, the candidates of Chattogram-1: Advocate Saifur Rahman, Chattogram-2: Principal Nurul Amin, Chattogram-3: Alauddin Sikder, Chattogram-4: Anwar Siddiqui Chowdhury, Chattogram-5: Engineer Sirajul Islam, Chattogram-6: Shahjahan Manju, Chattogram-7: Principal Amiruzzaman, Chattogram-8: Dr. Abu Naser, Chattogram-9: Dr. Fazlul Haque, Chattogram-10: Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali, Chattogram-11: Muhammad Shafi, Chattogram-12: Engr. Lokman, Chattogram-13: Professor Mahmudul Hasan, Chattogram-14: Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Chattogram-15: Shahjahan Chowdhury and Chattogram-16: Mohammad Zahirul Islam. Cox's Bazar-1: Abdullah Al Faruk, Cox's Bazar-2: Maulana AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Cox's Bazar-3: Shahidul Alam Bahadur and Cox's Bazar-4: Nur Ahmed Anwari, Khagrachhari: Advocate Eyakub Ali Chowdhury, Rangamati: Advocate Moktar Ahmed and Bandarban: Advocate Abul Kalam.

Meanwhile, the BNP announced the names of the candidates of 21 constituencies The names of two other two constituencies are yet to be announced.
The constituencies are Ctg 11 (Bandar-Patenga); Ctg-14 Chandanish.

The names of candidates nominated so far are: Nurul Amin from Chattogram-1; Sarwar Alamgir from Chattogram-2; Mustafa Kamal Pasha from Ctg-3 Sandwip; Kazi Salahuddin from Chattogram-4; Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin from Chattogram-5; Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury from Ctg-6 Raozan; Hummam Quader Chowdhury from Chattogram-7; Ershad Ullah from Chattogram-8; Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury from Chattogram-10; Mohammad Enamul Haque from Chattogram-12; Sarwar Jamal Nizam from Chattogram-13; Nazmul Mustafa Amin from Ctg-15 Satkania and Lohagara; Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa from Chattogram-16; Salahuddin Ahmed from Cox's Bazar-1; Lutfar Rahman Kajol from Cox's Bazar-3;

Shahjahan Chowdhury from Cox's Bazar-4.Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan from Khagrachari; Dipen Dewan from Rangamati ; Sacin Prue from Bandarban.

Meanwhile, National Citizen Party (NCP) has already announced the names 15 candidates in 23 constituencies of greater Chattogram. Of them the names of candidates for 7 constituencies in Chattogram and one constituency of Cox's Bazar are yet to be announced.

The nominated candidates are: M Mohiuddin Zilany for Ctg-6 Raozan; M Jobairul Hasan Arif for Ctg-8 Chandgaon, Boalkhali; M Riazul Anwar Chowdhury for Ctg-9 Kotwali, Bakalia; Sagupta Bushra Mishma for Ctg-10 Pahartali Halishahar; M Azad Dobash for Ctg-11 Bandar, Patenga Double mooring; Jobairul Aalm Manik for Ctg-13 Anowara Karnaphuli; M Hasan Ali for Ctg-14 Chandanaish; Abdul Mabud Syed for Ctg-15 Satkania Lohagara; Mir Arshadul Huq for Ctg-16 Banshkhali; Advocate Manzila Sultana for Khagrachari; Priya Chakma for Rangamati and Mongsa Prue Chowdhury for Banderban.

In Cox's Bazar district the candidates are: M Mainul Ahsan Khan for Cox's Bazar-1; Abu Sayeed M Sujauddin for Cox's Bazar-2; and Muhammad Hussain for Cox's Bazar-4.
According to the latest voter list published by the Election Commission on Sunday, Chattogram's 16 constituencies now have a total of 6.68 million registered voters, around 100,000 more than at the last parliamentary election.

Despite the rise in voters, the total number of polling centres has dropped by 58, from 2,023 in the previous election to 1,965 this time.

Among the registered voters in Chattogram, about 3.48 million are men and just under 3.2 million are women. There are also 69 registered transgender voters.
There are 1,965 polling centres across the 16 constituencies of Chattogram district.

Of these, 106 are in the Chattogram-1 constituency, 141 in the Chattogram-2, 83 in the Chattogram-3, 124 in the Chattogram-4, 142 in the Chattogram-5 and 95 in the Chattogram-6, 92 in the Chattogram-7, 179 in the Chattogram-8, 121 in the Chattogram-9, 139 in the Chattogram-10, 143 in the Chattogram-11 and 113 in the Chattogram-12 constituency.

Voting will be held in 118 centres in the Chattogram-13 constituency, 100 in the Chattogram-14 constituency, 157 in the Chattogram-15 constituency, and 112 in the Chattogram-16 constituency.

As two ballots will be used in the election, the number of polling booths may increase slightly.
