The nameplate of Felani Avenue was unveiled on Tuesday by Local Government Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, renaming the road from Gulshan-2 to Pragati Sarani in memory of Felani, the Bangladeshi teenager killed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF).

The ceremony served as a symbolic reminder of the ongoing human rights violations along the country’s borders.

Adilur Rahman Khan said the people of Bangladesh demand an end to border killings. “Our sister Felani lost her life hanging on a barbed-wire fence. By naming this road, we want to remind everyone of the inhuman cruelty inflicted on her,” he said, emphasizing that the initiative also aims to draw the attention of the global conscience to the persistent border killings.

“That is why the present government wants all border killings to stop,” he added.

The event was organised by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Gulshan-2 roundabout.

Present at the ceremony were Local Government Secretary Md Rezaul Maqsood Zahedi, Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riaz-ul Islam, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz and other officials.

Speaking at the programme, Secretary Md Rezaul Maqsood Zahedi said Felani’s killing was not an isolated incident but a clear example of human rights violations.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz added that the renaming symbolized national dignity and protest, reflecting Bangladesh’s resolve to uphold its honour.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer led by Maulana Ansar-ul Karim, imam of the DNCC mosque.
