Nahid announces anti-Indian hegemony resistance march

Published : Monday, 15 December, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Jatiya Nagorik Party convenor Nahid Islam on Monday announced a resistance march against what he described as Indian hegemony, calling on citizens to take to the streets of Dhaka on Victory Day instead of celebrating.

Speaking at the Central Shaheed Minar, Nahid unveiled the program as part of an all party Resistance Week initiative.

He said resistance against Indian aggression had continued since 1971 and urged people to organize a resistance rally across the capital on December 16.

Nahid said political forces would unite against Indian dominance and what he termed conspiracies against Bangladesh.

He warned that India should not assume it could continue political interference or election manipulation in Bangladesh after August 5, adding that such assumptions would be collectively challenged.

He further said India’s own independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity were linked to Bangladesh, urging New Delhi to exercise caution and maintain relations based on respect and dignity.

Referring to growing calls for the resignation of the home affairs adviser, Nahid said the adviser had lost moral authority to remain in office, citing continued deterioration of law and order after August 5.
He alleged that participants of the July mass uprising and families of those killed had been targeted, while cases were withdrawn despite repeated warnings.

Nahid also accused intelligence agencies of selectively losing effectiveness after August 5, claiming that while they had previously been used to suppress opposition, they were now failing to arrest suspects or prevent alleged perpetrators from crossing the border.

He questioned why suspects remained at large even after 72 hours and called for scrutiny of what he described as a deep state and the role of intelligence agencies.

He said the shooting of Inqilab Manch convener Sharif Osman bin Hadi was not an isolated incident and criticized the Election Commission for describing it as such.

Nahid argued that the commission no longer had the moral authority to remain in office and questioned whether a credible election could be held under its leadership.

He said the demand for a fair electoral environment remained unmet and urged the chief election commissioner to withdraw his remarks.
