DU honours martyred intellectuals

Dhaka University observes Martyred Intellectuals' Day today with a series of solemn programmes across its campus, honouring those who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War.

The day begins at 620 AM with black flags being hoisted at the Vice-Chancellor's residence and key university buildings. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan will lead the proceedings, which include wreath-laying ceremonies at multiple memorial sites.

At 630 AM, students, teachers, and staff gathers at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla before proceeding to place floral wreaths at the university central mosque graveyard, the Jagannath Hall memorial, and various residential area memorials at 635 AM. The procession will then continue to the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur and the Rayerbazar Killing Field Memorial.

A discussion meeting chaired by Professor Khan is scheduled for 1115 AM at the Student-Teacher Centre auditorium, providing a platform for reflection on the intellectuals' contributions and sacrifices.

The day's programmes will conclude with special prayers after Asr at the university central mosque, hall mosques, and other places of worship, seeking eternal peace for the martyred intellectuals' souls.

The comprehensive schedule was finalised at a recent meeting at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, according to the university's Public Relations Office.
