A youth was killed after being run over by a covered van in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Roman, 20, son of Md Jasim Jamadar, a resident of Purba Charkumira village in Faridganj municipality. Two others, Bappi, 18, and Sohag, 17 were also injured in the incident.
According to locals, the incident occurred at around 6:30 AM at the Bhatiyalpur Chourasta area on the Chandpur–Lakshmipur regional highway when a covered van crushed the walking trio from behind, causing them serious injuries.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Faridganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared Roman dead. The injured were later referred to Chandpur General Hospital for further treatment.
Following the incident, enraged locals apprehended the van driver, Md Imran, 26, and his helper, Md Ikram, 23, residents of Uttamabad village in Nalchhiti upazila of Jhalakathi district, along with the vehicle and handed them over to police.
Confirming the incident, Faridganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Helal Uddin said that the driver and helper, along with the vehicle, have been seized and legal procedures are underway.
