JHALAKATHI, Dec 12: Activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement blocked a road in Jhalakathi in protest of the shooting of Inquilab Manch's Convener Osman Hadi in Dhaka.

Around 4 pm on Friday, they began the blockade by setting tyres on fire at the College Moor area of the Jhalakathi-Barishal regional highway. This immediately brought all vehicular movement on the highway to a complete standstill. The blockade, which lasted for about an hour, stranded over a hundred vehicles, including long-route buses bound for Barishal and Khulna, causing distress to passengers.

The protesters stated that if the attackers of Osman Hadi are not arrested within the next 24 hours, they will announce stricter programmes. They claim the attack was premeditated and that the perpetrators need to be quickly identified and brought under the law.

Around 5 pm, police arrived at the scene and spoke with the protesters. After receiving assurance, they lifted the blockade. Vehicular movement on the road then gradually began to return to normal.
