
NATORE, Dec 12: Candidates from different political parties, including the two major parties, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, have been campaigning day and night for votes since receiving their nominations.
According to field sources, the candidates are going door to door to acquaint themselves with voters and seek their support. Some are organising public meetings at various places within their constituencies and making various commitments to the electorate.
In short, the candidates are very energetic and are passing busy times day and night for this purpose.
There are four parliamentary seats in Natore District.
NATORE-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara): In this seat, the BNP gave its nomination to Advocate Farjana Sharmin Putul, Joint Convener of the District BNP. She is the daughter of former BNP Minister Fazlur Rahaman Patol. She is also Special Assistant to the Advisory Council of Foreign Affairs of the BNP Chairperson.
It is mentionable that two other candidates sought the BNP nomination for this seat but were unsuccessful: Taiful Islam Tipu, Assistant Office Secretary of the BNP Central Committee, and Dr Yeasir Arshad Rajon, brother of the nominated candidate Putul.
Voters anticipate that Putul will win the election. On the other hand, Jamaat gave its nomination to Abul Kalam Azad for this seat. Additionally, Abdul Ahad was nominated by the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis. Both the Jamaat and BNP candidates are working in the field regularly.
NATORE-2 (Sadar-Naldanga): In this seat, former BNP Minister Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu received the nomination for the parliamentary election. This seat is very important for the BNP. Dulu began canvassing from the outset to gain the seat. People expect he will be elected again.
On the other hand, Jamaat's nominated candidate is Professor Md. Younus Ali. He has contested this seat for Jamaat in the past but could not win, though his present position is considered much better.
Furthermore, Hafez Moulana Mahbubur Rahaman is the nominated candidate of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish. No other candidates are presently seen in the field.
NATORE-3 (Singra): Professor Anwarul Islam Anu received the nomination from the BNP for this seat, while Professor Sydur Rahaman received the nomination from Jamaat. Both Jamaat and BNP are serious here.
Furthermore, other candidates nominated in this seat are: Mufti Ruhul Amin from the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Khalilur Rahaman from Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and S.M. Zarzis Quadir from the NCP.
NATORE-4 (Baroigram-Gurudaspur): Abdul Aziz, former Gurudaspur Upazila Chairman, received the nomination from the BNP in this seat. On the other hand, Professor Moulana Abdul Hakim received the nomination from Jamaat, while Jamil Ahmed was nominated by the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis.
At present, BNP and Jamaat candidates are seen campaigning in all four seats of the district. It was observed that the main contest will be held between Jamaat and the BNP.
