BNP
Standing Committee member and Dhaka-8 nominee Mirza Abbas came under
intense criticism from supporters of Inqilab Moncho when he visited the
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency department on Friday to
see injured independent hopeful and Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif
Osman Hadi.
Abbas arrived at the DMCH emergency gate around 4:00
PM, shortly after news spread that Hadi had been shot in the capital’s
Bijoynagar area earlier in the afternoon.
The moment he appeared,
Inqilab Moncho activists and Hadi’s supporters began shouting “Vua,
Vua” (fake) slogans against him and moved aggressively toward him,
creating a tense situation.
On-duty army personnel quickly
surrounded Abbas and escorted him inside the hospital to ensure his
safety, while protesters continued chanting outside.
Hadi was
shot around Friday noon when he was travelling by rickshaw through the
Bijoynagar Kalvert area after Jummah prayers. Two unidentified
assailants on a motorcycle approached and opened fire, hitting him below
his left ear before fleeing the scene.
He was brought to Dhaka
Medical College Hospital at around 2:35 PM and is currently undergoing
treatment at the One-Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC). DMCH police camp
in-charge Md. Faruk said Hadi’s condition is critical.
Misbah,
who brought Hadi to the hospital, said the attackers fired without
warning and sped away immediately after the shooting. Hadi was then
rushed to the hospital by rickshaw and admitted to the emergency unit
for urgent medical care.
