The health condition of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, remains unchanged, according to her medical team.
A member of the medical board told UNB on Tuesday night that her advanced age and long-standing health complications continue to slow her recovery.
“Madam has shown some slight improvement, but not to the extent we had hoped,” the doctor said, requesting anonymity. “At 80 years old, managing multiple medical issues becomes very risky. This time, the chest infection has been particularly difficult for her and recovery is taking longer.”
The physician noted that the positive aspect is that her condition has not deteriorated further.
“There is no new worsening and that is important for us,” he said.
For now, the board has no plan to send Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. She is receiving all necessary medical support at Evercare Hospital, the doctor added.
Khaleda Zia has been hospitalised since November 23 and was moved to Critical Care Unit on November 27 after her condition became more complicated.
A specialized medical board led by cardiologist Prof Shahabuddin Talukder, with experts from Bangladesh, the UK, the USA and China, is overseeing her treatment.
Her daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman, has been attending the medical board meetings in person since returning to Dhaka.
She spends most of her day at Khaleda Zia’s bedside and coordinates her treatment plan, remaining in constant contact with doctors even when at home.
