Bangladesh, Thales Alenia Space partner to boost earth observation capabilities

Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and Thales Alenia Space have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the country’s Earth Observation (EO) systems and satellite imagery applications for national development on Tuesday.

The signing ceremony at the Posts and Telecommunications Division of Bangladesh Secretariat was attended by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser and Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb highlighted the importance of leveraging advanced technologies for disaster management, agriculture, climate monitoring and national security, while stressing opportunities for technology graduates and the need for a National Satellite Image Repository.

The MoU will enable collaboration on capacity building, knowledge transfer and pilot applications of EO data, supporting critical national priorities.

Ambassador Alessandro described the partnership as a long-term collaboration to advance Bangladesh’s technological capabilities, combining optical and radar observation suited to local conditions.

The event was also attended by Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, BSCL Managing Director Dr Muhammad Imadur Rahman and officials from Thales Alenia Space.
