Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) on Tuesday signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Italy-based defence firm Leonardo S.p.A. to acquire Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft, marking a significant step in the modernisation of the country’s air capabilities.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate confirmed the development in a press release.
The Eurofighter Typhoon, developed by a joint consortium of the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain, is a fourth-generation fighter jet with advanced speed and agility, reportedly capable of outperforming US-made fifth-generation F-35s in close-range combat.
The LOI signing ceremony was held at Air Force Headquarters, attended by Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan and the Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Antonio Alessandro.
Senior officials from the Armed Forces Division and Italian representatives were also present.
Under the agreement, Leonardo S.p.A. will supply the jets for integration into the BAF’s modern multi-role combat fleet, enhancing frontline operational capabilities and strengthening national defence preparedness.
