Students and teachers at Islamic University (IU) held a human chain on Tuesday demanding justice for Sajid Abdullah, a student of the Al-Quran and Islamic Studies department, 145 days after his murder.
The protest, in front of the university administrative building, was attended by all major student and teacher organisations.
Faculty members including Professors Dr Amtaj Hossain, Dr A K M Motinur Rahman, Dr Tozammel Hossain, Dr Mostafhizour Rahman and others joined the demonstration, alongside student groups such as Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Andolan and Jamiat-e-Talaba-e-Arabiya.
Protesters warned that if the perpetrators are not arrested and justice served by 17 December, they will besiege the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
Faculty leaders criticised the administration, saying no visible progress has been made despite the fact-finding committee’s timely report and urged immediate action with law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, on July 17, Sajid's body was recovered from the university pond. Later, authorities formed a fact-finding committee, and the investigation handed over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
