Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday said the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections and the referendum will be announced within this week.
“The polls schedule will be announced this week,” he told reporters after a meeting with Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking about the meeting, the CEC said it was a courtesy call as the Chief Justice is set to retire this month.
“We have worked together, so I came to meet him as a farewell gesture,” he said.
Nasir Uddin added that the Judiciary will deploy the Electoral Inquiry Committee and that he has requested expedited action once the election schedule is released.
Responding to a question, the CEC said, “The Chief Justice is taking necessary steps regarding the deployment of the Electoral Inquiry Committee and has assured that there will be no obstacles.”
Earlier, the CEC arrived at the Supreme Court at around 1:35 PM to meet the Chief Justice, where Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui received him.
