The prolonged student agitation over the proposed Dhaka Central University (DCU), to be established around seven government colleges in the capital, prompted the Ministry of Education to release detailed decisions and progress updates on Monday.

The government stressed that the legislative groundwork for the new institution is nearing completion.

According to a press release by the Secondary and Higher Education Department on December 8, the proposed university aims to ensure "quality education for students of seven colleges, timely examination organisation and result publication, and administrative excellence."

The ministry confirmed that the draft Dhaka Central University Ordinance 2025 is in its finalization phase after a comprehensive review with the University Grants Commission.

First published on the ministry website on September 24, the draft ordinance drew significant public attention.
