2 die after consuming rat-poison in Jamalpur

Two individuals died after consuming rat-poison at Dewangonj upazila in Jamalpur district early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Kamal Mia and Kanku Mia. They were in-laws in relation.

According to locals, Kamal Mia went to the house of Kanku Mia on Sunday afternoon to attend an invitation.

That night, both men reportedly took what they believed to be gastric tablets but were actually rat poison stored inside the house and fell critically ill. The duo were illiterate and were unable to identify the tablets correctly, leading to the fatal mistake.

Later, family members rushed them to Dewanganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital due to their deteriorating condition.

Kanku Mia died on the way to the hospital, while Kamal Mia passed away early Monday while undergoing treatment.

Confirming the incident, Dewanganj Model Police Station officer-in-charge (Investigation) Anwar Hossain said that the bodies were handed over to the deceased’s family without autopsy and an unnatural death case has been filed.
