At least 50 individuals were injured in clashes between two factions of BNP in Magura Sadar upazila on Monday.
The incident took place in Ramnagar village under Hazrapur union in the upazila. Following the incident, police arrested six individuals in connection with the violence.
According to sources, tension had been brewing since Saturday afternoon when a dispute over establishing political dominance erupted between supporters of Hazrapur Union BNP leaders Matiar Rahman and Shahidul Mondal.
The altercation soon escalated into a clash, during which Azizul Islam alias Azizur Rahman, 38, was critically injured and taken to Magura General Hospital and later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he died on the way on Sunday.
Azizul’s death triggered renewed clashes between the two groups in Ramnagar on Monday, leaving at least 50 individuals from both sides injured.
The injured individuals are Farid Molla, 45, Asadul, 42, Ruhul, 40, Abdul Mondal, 50, Saheb Ali, 32, Wakil Uddin, 42, Sajjad Hossain, 45, Sajedul Islam, 57, Salman, 32, Muktar Mondal, 54, Saheb Ali, 35, Ujjal Mondal, 35, Taleb Mondal, 82, Turfan Mondal, 47, Aowal Mondal, 62, Bacchu Mondal, 55, Nannu Mondal, 40, Aziz Mondal, 45, Ariful Islam, 40, Idris Ali, among others. They all are currently receiving treatment at Magura General Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Magura Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Ayub Ali said that additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain order and six people have been detained after the incident.
