A man was shot dead and ten others sustained bullet injuries in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing dominance at Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mamun Mia, 25, son of Abdul Awal, a resident of Nilakhya village in the upazila.
According to sources, there had been longstanding enmity between Shaheed Member group and Felu Mia group over establishing dominance in the area.
Felu Mia’s grandson-in-law Mamun had an altercation with the supporters of Shaheed Member at around 11:30 AM in Darigaon area.
At one stage, supporters from both groups attacked each other by equipping themselves with arms and lethal weapons, which caused eleven individuals to be injured.
Later, they were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared Mamun dead.
Among the injured, Awal Mia, 55 and Parash Mia were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Confirming the incident, Narsingdi District Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sujan Chandra Sarkar said that additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation.
