Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) arrested the main accused of Chandgaon rape case from Baklia Police Station area in Chattogram city on Sunday night.
The arrested is Md Lokman Hakim, 32, a resident of Charpatharghata Azimpara area of Karnaphuli Police Station. Lokman was the main accused in a rape case.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB officials conducted a drive at around 8 PM in the Natun Bridge Bus Station area under Baklia police station and arrested Lokman.
RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the detention and said that the arrested have been handed over to Chandgaon police station for legal action.
Earlier, Lokman met with the victim, a professional tailor, through social media and developed a romantic relationship while staying abroad. After returning to the country on November 20, Lokman reportedly had sexual relations with her on November 24 and persuaded her to go to Cox's Bazar for marriage.
When the victim urged him to marry, he allegedly took her to a hotel in the Chandgaon area, had sexual intercourse again and recorded a video of the act. He later sent the video to the victim, demanding Tk 1 lakh and threatening to share it online.
Following the incident, the victim subsequently filed a case with Chandgaon Police Station.
