Chittagong University Central Students Union (CUCSU) organised a free medical camp on Sunday with support from Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital, providing healthcare services to nearly 1,700 students.

The day-long program was inaugurated at 9:30 AM at the university’s Intellectual Complex by Chittagong University (CU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammad Yahya Akhtar, who attended as the chief guest.

Students from eight departments received consultations from 18 specialist physicians covering cardiology, internal medicine, diabetes, physiotherapy, gynaecology, dermatology, ENT, general surgery and nutrition.

Medicines were distributed free of charge based on doctors’ prescriptions. A total of 12 booths were set up to facilitate smooth service delivery.

CUCSU Vice President (VP) Ibrahim Hossain Rony said improving healthcare facilities was a key pledge during the CUCSU election. “Work is underway to upgrade the CU Medical Center to a 50-bed facility. Several hospitals have shown interest in partnering with us. We are hopeful that students will soon receive more advanced medical services,” he said.

Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital Managing Director Professor Dr AKM Fazlul Haque noted that experienced specialists from various departments joined the camp. He added that a 50% discount on hospital services for CU students and teachers will be implemented soon.

Speaking at the event, CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammad Yahya Akhtar reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to prioritising student health. “Without good health, education cannot progress. We are working to expand healthcare services at CU Medical Center, including plans to turn it into a 50-bed hospital,” added Dr Akhtar.

CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin attended the program, among others.
