
Just 24 hours after the government’s announcement, the first consignment of Indian onions entered Bangladesh through Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira district on Sunday evening.
Bhomra Customs Revenue Officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed the entry, stating that the shipment was imported by M/S Sami Enterprise and cleared by Crossroad Clearing.
He also said that government collected Tk 154,066 in revenue from the consignment.
A truck carrying 30 metric tonnes of onions was admitted into the port. After clearance, the onions were transported to Satkhira Boro Bazar.
This marks the first official import of onions in over three months following the government directive, drawing satisfaction from port authorities, traders and labourers involved in the operation.
According to port sources, a total of 174 trucks carrying various goods entered Benapole Port on Sunday, including 113 trucks loaded with black stone.
