Gaibandha Freedom Day celebrated

GAIBANDHA, Dec 7: The Gaibandha Freedom Day was celebrated on Sunday with due respect. 
Marking the Freedom Day, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, District Unit command chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with the district administration. 

In the morning around 10 am, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of Zilla Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) of the town here with convener of the unit Ashraful Islam Ranzu in the chair. 

DC Mohammad Masudur Rahman Mollah attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and Superintendent of Police Md. Jashim Uddin spoke at the event as the special guest. 

Former company commander and former MP Saiful Alom Saza, ADC-General Jadob Sarker, Convener of District Bar Association Adv. Sekendar Azam Anam,  Member Secretary of the unit FF Abdul Mazid and FF Mujibul Haque Sana addressed the function, among others, while FF Moynul Islam Raza moderated the function. 

The FF, in their speech, said during the Liberation War local youths, farmers,  workers and common people stood by the freedom fighters and built strong unity. 

As a result,  it was possible to free Gaibandha from the enemy, they also commented. 

DC, in his speech, said the people of Gaibandha have shown unparalleled courage and strong unity during the period of the Liberation War the DC said, adding that this day reminds us of the spirit of the independence of the country. 

At last, a Dua Mahfil was held wishing progress and development of the country. 

On this day in 1971, valiant freedom fighters (FFs) liberated Gaibandha town defeating the Pakistan occupation forces who entered the Gaibandha town on April 17 in 1971 and stationed themselves at Wireless Office and then Helal Park, now it is Shah Abdul Hamid Stadium.

A team of FFs over 350 led by company commander Mahbub Elahi Ranju, Bir Protik, from Kalasonarchar via Balashighat entered the town through Pulbandi area with great joy and pride bearing the flag of independent Bangladesh and shaking hands with the people standing on both sides of the streets.
 
Then, the FFs gathered at Independence Square of the town here in the morning.
