Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan has said the nation will stand by whoever wins the upcoming national election.

He made the remarks while attending the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the long-awaited Mirganj Bridge over the Arial Kha River at Babuganj upazila in Barishal district.

Fouzul Kabir Khan emphasized that, unlike previous elections, no one should be allowed to occupy polling centres or remove polling agents.

“We have not witnessed fully fair elections in the past. This time, we hope it will be different. Whoever wins the election, the nation will stand by them. Our only expectation is that the polls are held in a festive and peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

The adviser noted that delays in the bridge project due to various obstacles have increased costs and called for cooperation to ensure timely completion.

Also present at the event, Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain warned against corruption and disputes over project contracts, stressing that such issues could affect construction quality and timelines.

He added, “The Mirganj Bridge is not the achievement of any single person; it belongs collectively to the local people. Along with the bridge, a four-lane connected road is also being developed. Locals must ensure that no major irregularities occur during the construction.”

Senior officials from local government offices were also present at the ceremony.

The approximately 1.5-kilometre bridge is expected to cost around Tk 1,442 crore.
