Student dies after consuming ‘toxic liquor’ in Kushtia

A college student died, and another fell seriously sick after reportedly consuming toxic liquor in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Hakim Ahmed, 21, son of Hasibul Islam of Chokghoga Purbopara under Aria union in the upazila. He was a student of Khalishakundi Degree College.

The critically ill youth, Hazrat Uddin, 20, is the son of Bichar Uddin from the same village.

According to family members, Hakim fell sick after drinking alcohol with his friend in a litchi orchard on Friday evening, and both became ill shortly afterward.

Later, they were first taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, but doctors referred them to Kushtia General Hospital as their condition worsened.

While undergoing treatment, Hakim died at night, while Hazrat Uddin remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Daulatpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Solaiman Sheikh confirmed the incident and said that an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
