BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday dismissed any suggestion that Khaleda Zia’s critical health condition could influence or delay the upcoming national election.

Speaking at a programme at Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, he said the BNP chairperson’s illness has “no connection whatsoever” with the election timeline.

Khasru said Khaleda Zia had always fought for democracy and her long-held desire was to ensure that people could freely choose their government through voting.

He added that all necessary preparations to transfer Khaleda abroad for advanced medical treatment have already been made.

“Once the doctors give the green signal, she will be taken to a hospital in London,” he said.
