The health condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia does not present a valid argument for rescheduling the February general election, according to senior leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Speaking on Friday at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in Dhaka, the Standing Committee member questioned the very premise of the speculation.

"How these questions arise, I don't understand," Khasru said, referring to concerns about the election's viability amidst the former prime minister's illness and the absence of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

"The election is in its own place. [Khaleda's] illness has no connection with the vote. She is the person who wants elections the most, to restore democracy in Bangladesh," he added. "bdnews24.com
