With the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election approaching, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced its candidates for several key constituencies in the second phase.

On Thursday, at a press conference held at the party chairperson's political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally unveiled the names of candidates for 34 constituencies. Earlier, on November 3, the party had declared candidates for 237 out of 300 constituencies in the first phase.

DINAJPUR: Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman, Legal Adviser to Tarique Rahman and Vice-President of UK BNP, has been nominated as the BNP candidate for Dinajpur-5 (Parbatipur-Phulbari) constituency with the party's 'Paddy Sheaf' symbol.

The other nominees in Dinajpur are Md Manjurul Islam for Dinajpur-1 (Birganj-Kaharol), Md Sadiq Riaz for Dinajpur-2 (Bochaganj-Biral), Begum Khaleda Zia for Dinajpur-3 (Sadar), Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia for Dinajpur-4 (Khansama-Chirirbandar), and Prof AZM Zahid Hossain for Dinajpur-6 (Birampur, Nawabganj, Hakimpur-Ghoraghat).

Following Kamruzzaman's nomination, Phulbari Upazila BNP President Khurshid Alam Mati welcomed the decision. He said all divisions would be set aside and party activists would work together to ensure victory for the 'Paddy Sheaf' in Dinajpur-5. He expressed confidence that the BNP would succeed in securing the seat.

KHULNA: BNP has finalised Amir Ezaz Khan as its candidate for the Khulna-1 (Dakope-Batiaghata) constituency, ending weeks of speculation.

He previously contested national polls from the same seat in 2001, 2008 and 2018.

Local BNP leaders said grassroots activists had long been expecting his nomination.

Ezaz is widely regarded as a clean, dedicated and socially respected figure in the area. He earlier served as the general secretary and later as convener of the District BNP.

Following the announcement, triumphant party activists brought out celebratory processions, distributed sweets and flooded social media with messages of congratulations.

Leaders at the grassroots believe the nomination will further strengthen the BNP's organizational position in Khulna-1.

Local BNP officials said they are enthusiastic about the decision and have already intensified election preparations.

Supporters expect that, under Ezaz's leadership, the constituency may witness renewed political momentum.

Amir Ejaz Khan said, he has long served the people of Batiaghata, beginning with his role in the Upazila Committee.

He added that although he lost the 2001 election, he received strong public support.

In both 2008 and 2018, after securing party nominations, he again earned a significant number of votes.

He expressed confidence that a free and fair election this time would enable him to win and fulfill the hopes and expectations of the people of the constituency.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has replaced its previously nominated candidate for Khulna-1 (Dakope-Batiaghata) constituency, naming Krishna Nandi, president of the party's Hindu Committee in Dumuria upazila, as its candidate for the upcoming national election.

NATORE: Barrister Anwarul Islam Anu, former acting convener of Singra Upazila BNP, has been nominated as the party's candidate for the Natore-3 (Singra) constituency.

Anu, a student leader in the 1980s, is currently a member of Natore District BNP and Principal of the renowned Singra Damdama Pilot School and College. He has also long served as President of the Bangladesh Teachers' Association in Singra Upazila and Natore District.

According to party sources, Anu's political career began in 1983 as president of Singra thana Chhatra Dal. In 1985, he was elected general secretary of Rajshahi University's Mother Bux Hall, and in 1987 became joint general secretary of the university's Chhatra Dal unit. Later, in 1996, he served as joint general secretary of Singra thana BNP, and from 2003 he held the post of general secretary of Singra municipality BNP for 16 years.

He played a significant role in the anti-Ershad movement and the mass uprising of 1990, as well as during the state of emergency in 2007, when he helped keep the party organised. Beyond politics, Anu has been active in social service initiatives. Following Tarique Rahman's directives, he has worked to implement BNP's 31-point programme, organising courtyard meetings, street rallies, and mass communication campaigns across rural areas. Recently, he received a "green signal" from Tarique Rahman over the phone to prepare for the upcoming election.

Following the nomination announcement, Anu joined a special prayer at BNP's Godownpara office in Singra, seeking the speedy recovery of party chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

PATUAKHALI:  Former lawmaker Shahidul Alam Talukder has been nominated by the BNP as its candidate for the Patuakhali-2 (Bauphal) constituency.

Talukder was elected MP in the 2001 national election after defeating the Awami League nominee. In the upcoming polls, he is expected to face Jamaat-e-Islami central leader and former Shibir president Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud.

The announcement of Talukder's nomination has sparked enthusiasm among his supporters in Bauphal, who expressed optimism about his chances in the election.
