Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) arrested the main suspect in the murder of Gopalganj’s Iti Khatun from Debidwar upazila in Cumilla district on Thursday night.
The arrested is Rasel Sheikh, a resident of Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj district. He was accused in murdering his wife.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-6 Bhatiapara Camp and RAB-11 conducted a raid at around 7:30 PM in Charbakr Bazar area under Debidwar police station in Comilla district and apprehended Rasel Sheikh.
Rasel was accused of killing his wife between 23 and 30 November by strangling her with a towel following a family dispute. He allegedly attempted to hide her body by placing it in a sack, attaching four bricks and submerging it under water hyacinth in their private pond near their house.
The body was discovered by locals on 30 November around 6 pm, who alerted the police. Mukshudpur police recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Md Selim, filed a murder case at Mukshudpur Police Station.
RAB-6 confirmed the incident through a press release and said that the arrested has been handed over to police for legal proceedings.
