Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-14) arrested a couple along with drugs from Sapahar upazila of Naogaon district on Thursday night.
The arrested are Jahidul Islam, 40, and his wife Beauty Begum, 35, both residents of Gopinagar village under Patnitala police station in Naogaon.
According to BGB, a special patrol team led by Nayek Md Ershad Ali of Bustabur BOP conducted a raid at around 11 PM near Velupara paved road, about 5 km inside Bangladesh from border pillar 260.
BGB seized 54 pieces of Indian Tapentadol tablets and Tk 23,000 in cash during the raid. The total seized value amounts to Tk 33,800.
BGB Patnitala Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Mohammad Iqbal Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the arrested were handed over to Dhamoirhat Police Station on Thursday and a regular case has been filed over the incident.
He also reaffirmed BGB’s commitment to continuing strict operations against cattle and drug smuggling, illegal border crossings and other cross-border crimes along the Naogaon and Joypurhat frontier.
